1. Breastfeeding Consultation

2. Breastpump Flange Fitting & Pumping Technique

Using a breastpump should be as comfortable as possible. The right flange fit and pumping technique can help you use your breastpump more effectively.

Our support may include:

• Breastpump flange sizing and fit assessment.
• Breastpump assembly and correct usage.
• Guidance on stimulation and expression modes, where available.
• Comfortable suction settings and pumping techniques.
• Identifying possible causes of pumping discomfort.
• Practical advice on incorporating pumping into your daily routine.

You may bring your existing breastpump to your appointment so our team can review its operation and fit, subject to the service booked.

3. Breastfeeding Concern Assessment

Breastfeeding concerns can vary from mother to mother. We provide guidance based on your reported concerns and the assessment appropriate to the service booked.

Topics may include:

• Latch and positioning difficulties.
• Breast engorgement and suspected blocked ducts.
• Nipple pain and discomfort during feeding or pumping.
• Concerns about low milk supply.
• Breastfeeding and pumping routines.
• Identifying when further medical or specialist assessment may be needed.

Persistent pain, fever, spreading breast redness, concerns about inadequate milk intake or poor infant weight gain should be assessed promptly by an appropriate healthcare professional.

4. Breast Milk Storage & Handling Guidance

Learn how to handle expressed breast milk safely at home or when you are away from your baby.

We cover:

• Safe storage and labelling practices.
• Refrigeration and freezing guidance.
• Thawing and warming expressed breast milk.
• Handling expressed milk during daily activities and travel.

5. Personalised Feeding & Pumping Plan

Meet Our Lactation Consultant Dee

Breastfeeding can bring questions at every stage, particularly during the early weeks after birth. Having someone who listens to your concerns and helps you understand your options can make the journey feel less overwhelming.

Dee is Brother Bear's in-house lactation consultant, certified through the LatchLab lactation course. Dee has also completed the NLC breastfeeding course and supports mothers with breastfeeding guidance and breast pump selection.

Dee speaks English and Malay and can help you explore practical approaches based on your individual situation.

1. What is a lactation consultation?

A lactation consultation provides breastfeeding education and individual guidance on concerns such as latch, positioning, breastpump use, milk expression and feeding routines. The scope of assessment depends on the consultant's qualifications and the service booked.

2. Which breastfeeding package should I choose?

Breastfeeding Essentials is suitable for basic education. Breastfeeding Confidence offers more focused assessment and practical guidance for latch and pumping concerns. Personalised Lactation Care includes a more comprehensive assessment, direct observation of feeding where appropriate and a personalised feeding and pumping action plan.

3. Can I bring my own breastpump?

Yes, you may enquire about bringing your existing breastpump for a consultation. The team can review its operation, flange fit and pumping technique according to the package booked. Confirm the arrangements when making your appointment.

4. Can a lactation consultation help with latching difficulties?

A consultation can provide guidance on positioning, latch and feeding practices. If your baby has persistent difficulty latching, feeding effectively or gaining weight, further assessment by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional may be needed.

5. Can you help if I have low milk supply?

A consultation can review feeding frequency, milk removal patterns and pumping routines to identify possible areas for improvement. Low milk supply concerns may require a broader assessment of both mother and baby, and appropriate medical support where indicated.

6. Can you help with breast engorgement or suspected blocked ducts?

We can provide appropriate breastfeeding guidance and discuss comfort measures. Persistent or worsening symptoms, fever or spreading breast redness require prompt medical assessment. The consultation does not replace medical care.

7. Do you provide home visits?

Home visits may be available for selected services, subject to location, availability and additional travel charges. Contact our team to confirm the service area and fees.

8. Is follow-up included in the consultation packages?

One follow-up consultation of up to 15 minutes by phone or video call within 7 days is included in Breastfeeding Confidence and Personalised Lactation Care. Breastfeeding Essentials does not include a follow-up consultation.

9. Do I need to book an appointment?

Yes, please fill up the booking form here. We will confirm the consultation location, availability, package and appointment time.

10. When should I seek medical attention instead of waiting for a consultation?

Seek prompt medical care for fever with breast symptoms, spreading redness, severe or worsening pain, or concerns about your baby's feeding, hydration or weight gain. A baby who is difficult to wake or appears seriously unwell needs urgent medical assessment.

11. Can I try a breast pump before buying one?

Brother Bear offers breast pump trial services. Available models and trial arrangements may vary. Contact us to confirm which pumps are available and how to arrange a trial.

12. Does Brother Bear rent breast pumps?

Yes, Brother Bear offers breast pump rental services. Please enquire about available models, rental periods, fees, deposits and applicable terms before booking.

13. How do I choose the right breast pump?

Consider how often you plan to pump, where you will use the pump, your comfort, flange fit, portability, cleaning requirements and budget. Our team can help you explore available models and their features.
